For more than 25 years, Dr. Robert D. Lesslie worked in and directed several of the busiest ERs in the Charlotte, North Carolina area. He also served as medical director of the emergency department for almost fifteen years at Piedmont Medical Center. There, he taught and certified the hospital staff in basic and advanced life support.
Dr. Lesslie enjoyed the fast-paced environment of the ER and the need to make rapid and accurate diagnoses. He viewed his medical career as an opportunity to go beyond simply diagnosing and treating individual patients. It was a way to fulfill a higher calling by meeting the real physical and emotional needs of patients.
Dr. Lesslie was the quintessential renaissance man, who at any given moment could be found beekeeping, bagpiping, propagating (both children and plants), writing, exercising, spoiling grandchildren, patching up aches and pains, board gaming (with loose rule interpretations), pursuing expertise in countless subjects, and actively seeking ways to avoid retirement.
Dr. Lesslie and his wife Barbara were married for 47 years. Their love spanned a half a century and was the foundation that built a legacy of laughter, service, and devotion. Together, they raised four children and were blessed with nine grandchildren. The Lord called Dr. Lesslie, and his wife home to glory, together with two of their beloved grandchildren on April 7, 2021. Robert and Barbara Lesslie both lived to share their direct connection to God with not just those they loved, but also with everyone they met. We can only imagine that they were greeted in heaven with the words, “Well, done, my good and faithful servants.”
